TOPEKA, Kan. --- Washburn hitters bombarded Northeastern State (12-35, 9-24 MIAA) on Saturday as the Ichabods out slugged the Riverhawks, 16-8, with seven Ichabods tallying two or more hits en route to a 14-7 win. As result, Washburn took a 2-0 series lead and kept its postseason hope alive, while it improved to 24-21 on the year and 15-17 in conference play.

Steven Jacobson led the effort with a 3-for-4 day while scoring once and driving in four others.
Rorey Combs and
Javis Larson followed with respective, 2-for-3 outings.
Brady Hoover,
Peter Shearer and
Michael Oyervides were each 2-for-4, while
Braden Kirkpatrick came off the bench and went 2-for-2.

Surrendering an unearned in the first, Washburn answered back with a four of its own. Hoover tallied the first Ichabod run of the day as Shearer notched his first career triple with two outs. Oyervides then registered his 21st RBI of the season to make it 2-1. The Ichabods then scratched two more runs across after Larson reached on a Riverhawk throwing error.

Northeastern State then capitalized on an Ichabod error in the second cutting its deficit to 4-2. The Riverhawks then drew level in the third with a two-run hit by Garrett McClain.

The tie however was short-lived as Oyervides pushed Washburn in front during the bottom half of the third, scoring from third thanks to a wild pitch. Oyervides found himself on third after reaching on a walk and a double from Larson.

Lane Harvey then extended the Ichabod margin to 6-4 with his 13
th double of the season, tying the team lead.

From there it was all Washburn as it scored twice in the fifth and seventh with a four-run frame in the sixth, while Northeastern State's efforts fell short, tallying just one run in sixth, eighth and ninth.

Ichabod starter
Jacob Head (4-4) was credited with the win after putting together a quality outing, which saw the lefty surrender five runs, three earned, on six hits with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Trevor Marreel then worked a brief 0.2-inning of hitless relief, before
Jonathan Walker and
Ramon Monje worked the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Washburn will close out the 2019 regular season on Sunday with the series finale. First pitch from Falley Field is scheduled for 12 pm and will follow Washburn baseball's senior day celebration.
