Soccer heads to Hays to take on Colorado State - Pueblo

Take a Look Ahead
  • The Ichabods will head to Hays, Kan. to take on Colorado State -Pueblo on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
  • This is the second time the two teams have faced each other.
  • Sunday will be the first time head coach, Davy Phillips, faces the Thunderwolves.
  • Both head coaches are in their third seasons with the programs.
Last Time Out
  • The Ichabods defeated the Cardinals 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
  • In the first half, three Ichabods were able to find the back of the net in the span of ten-minutes.
  • Halle Hill, assisted by Tera Lynch, score the first goal at  21:23 to give Washburn a 1-0 lead. 
  • Four minutes later, Mackenzie Menke scored and Lynch added another assist. 
  • The third goal the scored by Sydney Rosemann assisted by Kati Sneegas.
  • Kati Sneegas and Emily Michaelis led the defense for Washburn, helping the keep the Cardinals shotless.
  • Raegan Wells and Graycn Evans recorded their first shut out as a college goalkeepers.
Ichabods vs. Thunderwolves
  • Last time the Ichabods faced the Thunderwolves, the teams' 2019 rosters were in elementary school.
  • The match was on Aug. 28, 2009 at Rawling Soccer Complex in Pueblo, Colo.
  • Leah Talley, third on the all-time career goal leader board, scored the game winning goal for the Ichabods.
  • In 2009 Davy Phillips was the associate head coach for men and women's soccer at Baker University.
  • This is the first time that the head coaches will face each other.
  • Last time the teams met, Ichabod women's soccer team was known as the Lady Blues.
  • The Ichabods defeated the Pack 4-1.
  • Both teams will enter the match with one shutout so far this season.

2009 game recap - Aug. 28, 2009
The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 4-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo to even their record at 1-1 on the season. 

The Lady Blues took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute when Keeley Lambeth scored off an assist from Stefanie Steuver. However, 1:58 later, the ThunderWolves tied the score on a Kara Morton penalty kick.

The Lady Blues would score three unanswered goals as Leah Talley scored off an assist from Tia Stovall in the 56th minute and Ashley Taylor and Brandy Hirsch each scored unassisted goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes respectively.

Ashley Klone picked up the win in goal for the Lady Blues collecting one save while facing five shots. Washburn attempted 20 shots with nine coming on goal.

Scouting the Thunderwolves
The Thunderwolves were picked seventh in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team finished the 2018 season 9-6-3 overall and 6-5-2 in their conference. The Pack fell to UC-Colorado Springs in the first round of the RMAC tournament last fall. The team has played in two matches and are 1-1-0 at the start of the 2019 campaign. The Thunderwolves will play Fort Hays State Friday, Sept. 13 before facing the Ichabods.

The squad started of the season against #10 West Texas A&M. The Thunderwolves lost 2-0, but were able to get seven shots off. Following that match they faced Lubbock Christian and won 1-0. The team collected their first shutout. 

The Pack returned junior, Cara Siegla, who was a top scorer for the squad. Siegla netted three goals and two assists for the Pack. Jordin Schaller is the only Thunderwolf with a goal so far this season. Schaller netted the game winning goal against Lubbock Christian (9/07/19). The Thunderwolves have take eight shots on goal from five different players.  

On the defensive end junior goalkeeper, Rylie Martin is defending the net for the Pack. Martin has tallied one shutout so far this season against Lubbock Christian (9/07/19). Martin is returning from a season ending injury in 2018. Senior defender, Alicia Ramirez, will return to the back line as well. Ramirez started all 16 matches she competed in during the 2018 season.
