WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The women's tennis team had a strong showing at the last day of the Midwestern Invitational on Sat., Sept. 21. Five players made it to the finals of their bracket.
In flight one Maria Soler Valverde and
Logan Morrissey made it to the championship match of the consolation bracket to face each other. The two did not play and were crowned co-champions. Valverde won her semifinal match in two set with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Morrisey beat her opponent in two sets as well with the score of 6-2, 6-0.
Svea Crohn finished the day 2-1 making it to the finals of the second flight. Crohn placed second after winning her semifinals match in two sets with the score of 6-3, 6-4.
Cadence Lynn won her consolation bracket for the second flight. Lynn won the championship match in two sets with the score of 6-1, 7-5.
Madison Lysaught was crowned champion of the third flight winning the semifinal and championship match in two sets. Lysaught won the final match with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Sydnee Foster finished the day 1-1 in the consolation bracket of flight three. Foster won her first match in two ,6-3, 6-4.
Kinsey Fields won the consolation bracket for the fourth flight. She won the championship match in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
On the doubles side, Morrisey and Crohn made it to the championship match of the first flight. The pair won their semifinals match, 7-5, and lost in the championship match. Valverde and Foster lost in the semifinals of the consolation bracket in a Super Tie Breaker, 7-6 (3). The pair of Lysaught and Lynn lost their first match, 6-1 in flight two. Due to the delays the next match was not played.
The Washburn women's tennis team will travel to Edmond, Okla. on Oct. 4 and 6 to compete in the ITA Regional Championships.
