Washburn soccer travels to Fort Hays St. and Nebraska-Kearney

Take A Look Ahead
  • The Ichabods will travel to Hays, Kan. and Kearney, Neb. this weekend.
  • Washburn will play Fort Hays State on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
  • The Ichabods will then travel to play the Lopers on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. for their first official conference game of the season. 
  • Davy Phillips is 6-3 against the two teams.
Last Time Out
  • The Ichabods defeated the Lopers 1-0 on Fri, Sept. 20.
  • Both teams were scoreless in the first half

Ichabods vs. Tigers
  • Under head coach Davy Phillips the Ichabods are 2-2 against Fort Hays. 
  • Last time the Ichabods faced faced the Tigers on the road, Washburn tallied six shots on goal.
  • Tera Lynch and Paige Ledesma are the only current Ichabods that have scored on Fort Hays.
  • The Ichabods have won the past two away matches against the Tigers.
  • The 2018 match up hosted by the Tigers, both teams recorded 12 attempted shots.

Ichabods vs. Lopers

Scouting the Tigers

Fort Hays State started the 2019 season by claiming third on the 2019 MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last season the team finished 11-7-2 overall and 8-3-0 in conference play. The Tigers are currently 3-2 so far this season. The team returned 22 players from last year's roster. Last year the Ichabods and the Tigers split the series 1-1.

Last Friday, Sept. 20, the Tigers lost 4-2 to Emporia St. Nikita Woods and Taryn Schnell scored the two goals for the Tigers. On Sun.,Sept. 22, the Tigers shut out Nebraska-Kearney 2-0. Darby Hirsch and Olympia Katsouridis tallied the two goals for the Tigers. Hirsch leads the team in goals, with two so far this season. she has recorded four goals on goal as well. Woods has taken eight shots and four on goal this season. 

Senior goalkeeper Megan Kneefel has recorded two shutouts and two wins so far this season. She has saved 12 shots on goal and is fourth on the MIAA goals against average with .667. 

Scouting the Lopers

Nebraska-Kearney ranked 10th in the MIAA Preseasons Coaches Poll, right behind Washburn. The Lopers faced the Ichabods on Sept. 20 and lost 1-0. The Lopers are currently 1-3-2.  Nebraska-Kearney played Fort Hays on Sun., Sept. 22 and lost to the Tigers 0-2. 

Against Washburn the Lopers had four shots on goal and nine shot attempts. Megan Merkel and Emma Weid each had two shots on goal. The team had more corner kick attempts than Washburn taking three. Against Fort Hays the team was only able to find one opportunity to take a shot on goal in the second half the match. Lopers had more corner kick opportunities tallying two. 

Goalkeeper, Allie Prososki, defended the net against the Ichabods. She saved four shots and only had one goal against her. Prosoki has started and played five games for the Lopers Against the Tigers, Emily Thuss started for Nebraska-Kearney. Thuss tallied two saves and allowed to goals. 

Before facing Washburn on Sun., Sept 29 the Lopers will play Emporia State on Fri., Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
