TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods finished off the Washburn half of the ESU Classic with a split of two games falling to Sioux Falls and then topping Wayne State 3-1 as the Ichabods defeated the Wildcats for the second time in a week improving to 8-10 on the season. Brenda Holaday collected her 100th collegiate win. The Ichabods will return to action with six games next weekend at the Washburn Invitational.
Game 1 – Sioux Falls 2, Washburn 0
Two runs in the bottom of the second were enough for a Cougar win in the opening game on Sunday. Washburn outhit the Cougars 10-5 in the game, but stranded 10 runners on base in the game.
Ashton Friend was 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and
Jenna Moore collected two hits.
Raegen Hamm struck out eight in the game with one walk allowing one earned run in the complete game outing.
Game 2 – Washburn 3, Wayne State 1
The Ichabods scored two runs in the top of the first after
Hadley Kerschen tripled down the left field line and
Jenna Moore hit a double to the same spot scoring Kerschen and then
Ashton Friend doubled to right center to score Moore putting Washburn up 2-0.
In the third inning, Friend drove in the Ichabods' final run in the top of the third on a double to center scoring Moore who led off the inning with a single.
Hamm struck out nine in the game allowing one run on five hits and a walk.
Moore and Friend each had two hits to lead Washburn and Friend drove in two.
