TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods wrapped up the weekend with an MIAA doubleheader sweep. The Ichabods won the first game 4-0 before falling in the second game 4-3. Washburn returns to action next weekend with a four-game set with Emporia State starting on Friday. The first two games will be MIAA games in Emporia while the two on Saturday will be non-conference games in Topeka.
Game 1 – WU 4, PSU 0
Raegen Hamm pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout striking out 10 as the Ichabods outhit Pittsburg State nine to two in the opener.
The Ichabods broke open a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second when
Brianna Fuchs hit a doubled down the left field line scoring
Paige Robbins and
Bri Francis who both singled earlier in the inning. Washburn added two more in the fifth when
Jenna Moore doubled to left scoring
Hadley Kerschen and then Francis singled driving in Moore staking the Ichabods to a 4-0 lead.
Seven different Ichabods had a hit in the game with Francis and Robbins each recording two. Fuchs drove in two runs.
Game 2 – PSU 4, WU 3
The Ichabods fell behind 3-0 after the Gorillas' first at bat but came back to score one in the bottom of the inning on an
Ashton Friend single scoring
Brianna Fuchs who singled in the inning. In the top of the fifth the Gorillas added one run taking a 4-1, but the Ichabods came back with two of their own on a 2-RBI double by Friend scoring Robbins and Fuchs. The Ichabods came up empty in the sixth and seventh innings leading to split.
Robbins, Friend and Fuchs all had two hits and Friend picked up 3 RBI.
Jordan Hausher took the loss in the circle for the Ichabods.
