TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn women's JV took the win in an exhibition against Missouri Valley. The Ichabods defeated the Vikings 78-56.
The game was tight between the two teams in the first quarter. Both teams hit about 28 percent a made six field goals. It was Washburn's three made free throws that gave them the 17-16 edge heading into the second.
The Ichabods took charge in the second quarter outscoring the Vikings 23 to 13. Washburn started the quarter on a 7-1 run with the help of Bailey Collar's five points. Collar ended the quarter with seven points. She led all Ichabods with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting and three assists.
Another dominant Ichabod quarter followed in the third. Washburn doubled the Vikings point total. As a team, the Ichabods went 9-for-12. A great start with eight early points to the Vikings' two. Collar scored nine points in the third as the Ichabods led 62-40. Washburn did not look back, keeping the 22-point lead to the end.
Four Ichabods had double-digit point totals and three with double-doubles. Austin Broadie was a force in the paint racking up 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Laykn Schieferecke also had a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds while also scoring 10 points.
Chloe Carter led with 15 rebounds while also putting up 12 points.
The Ichabods travel to Hutchinson Community College for a scrimmage on Tuesday, November 9. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
