BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The Washburn women's tennis team beat Southeastern Oklahoma State, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at The Club in Indian Springs.
The Ichabods lost the doubles point as only the duo of
Cadence Lynn and
Marta Torres won their match, 6-2, from the bottom of the lineup. Washburn quickly made up for the lost point as they secured the first three singles points back-to back.
Maria Soler Valverde first won her match from the No. 3 spot by scores of 6-2 and 6-3.
Maja Jung then defeated her opponent, 6-1 and 6-3, from the fifth spot. Torres won the next point from the No. 2 spot in the lineup by 6-2 and 6-3.
Svea Crohn and Lynn fell in their matches at the first and sixth spots in the lineup to even the score at 3-3. With the deciding point on the line,
Logan Morrissey went to work at the No. 4 spot. Morrissey fell in her first set by 7-5 but came back to win the next two with scores of 6-3 to lead Washburn to a 4-3 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Washburn improves its record to 3-0 and Southeastern Oklahoma State's first loss of the season makes its record 3-1.
The Ichabods return home to host Barton County Community College on March 5. The match is set for 1 p.m. at Washburn Tennis Complex.
