TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 17 Washburn men's tennis team defeated the Bethel Threshers, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
The Ichabods won the doubles point in commanding fashion as they swept their Threshers opponents in order.
Bradley Eidenmueller and
Sebastian Pjontek started action off with a 6-1 win at the top of the lineup. The duo of
Paul Haase and
Miquel Perez then followed by defeating their opponents by a score of 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
Marc Roura Casi and
Miller Zeiders closed it out with a 7-6 (6-2) victory from the third court.
Playing at the No. 4 spot, Roura Casi won the first singles point as he took a dominant victory by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Pjontek defeated his opponent by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 from the third spot.
Miquel Perez won the clinching point as he took down his opponent by 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 2 spot.
Raul-Alin Dicu followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory from the top of the lineup. Zeiders won the Ichabods' sixth point as he won his match from the fifth spot by set scores of 3-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (5-0). The Threshers won the last point of the match but Washburn still took the 6-1 victory over Bethel.
The Ichabods improve to 10-3 this season, while Bethel remains at an 8-3 record as the match was counted as a scrimmage on their side.
Washburn will host a scrimmage against Cowley County on Thursday. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
