No. 18 women’s tennis extends win streak to five with victory over Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. – The No. 18 Ichabod women's tennis team took a 6-1 victory over Fort Hays State on Sunday afternoon to extend its win streak to five.
 
Washburn swept the doubles point to take an early advantage. From second court, the duo of Maja Jung and Marta Torres swept their opponents, 6-0. Svea Crohn and Logan Morrissey then followed with a 6-1 win from the top of the lineup to ensure the doubles point win. Sydnee Foster and Cadence Lynn teamed up at the third spot to take a 6-2 victory and secure the doubles point sweep for the Ichabods. 
 
In singles action, Crohn won the Ichabods the first point as she swept her opponent in two 6-0 sets at the No. 2 spot. Maria Soler Valverde followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory from the third spot in the lineup. To clinch the Washburn win, Lynn won her match by set scores of 6-3, 6-2 from the fourth court. Foster fell to her opponent at the bottom of the lineup by scores of 0-6, 2-6. Torres got the Ichabods rolling again as she was victorious at the top of the lineup by set scores of 7-5, 6-0. Kinsey Fields closed things out with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot, guaranteeing Washburn the 6-1 victory over Fort Hays State.
 
With their fifth straight win, the Ichabods improve to a 14-1 overall record with a 6-1 record in conference play. Fort Hays State falls to 3-6 overall and 0-6 in MIAA action.
 
The Ichabods return home to close out the regular season against Northwest Missouri on April 24. The match is set for 1 p.m. at Washburn Tennis Complex. Senior Day proceedings will take place at the conclusion of the match as the 2021 graduates, Logan Morrissey and Maria Soler Valverde, are recognized.
