EDMOND, Okla. – The Ichabods were unable to overcome a five run second inning as they fell in the series opener at Central Oklahoma, 5-3. The series will wrap up with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
The Ichabods (7-14, 6-10 MIAA) began the scoring with one run in the second inning.
Eric Hinostroza doubled down the left field line and then scored on
Zion Bowlin's RBI single.
In the home half of the second, the Bronchos (11-8, 7-6 MIAA) capitalized on four walks and two hits to go in front, 5-1.
With one out, Bowlin landed a double and then traded places with
Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli on his double to right field to make it a 5-2 contest.
In the top of the eighth,
Parker Dunn launched a two-out solo shot to deep center field for his third homer of the season.
Braden Minor retired the Bronchos in order in the bottom of the eighth to keep it a two run game heading into the ninth.
Hinostroza got things going with a leadoff single and Bowlin followed with a walk.
Peter Shearer laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners in to scoring position, but that would be as close as they got as a line out and strikeout ended the game.
Bowlin finished the night going 2-3 at the plate with a walk and also scored once and had an RBI. Hinostroza also had two hits and scored a run.
Rane Pfeifer was tabbed with the loss, making his exit in the second after allowing four runs on one hit but five walks.
Conner Bond tossed four scoreless innings and allowed just two hit while striking out three.
Central Oklahoma's Luke Anderson picked up the win, going eight innings and allowing three runs on six hits and struck out nine.
