Cassaday, Dewey selected to USA D2 women's basketball team

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn women's basketball freshmen players Lauren Cassaday and Aubree Dewey have been selected to the USA D2 Basketball Team playing in Brazil this week.

The USA squad is made up of NCAA Division II players from around the country and will play three games during the trip. The team will also spend time exploring the rich cultural history of Brazil, including a stay at Copacabana Beach, a tour of the Christ the Redeemer statue, Sugar Loaf Mountain, the Lapa Steps, and more.

The team is coached by Heather Davis of Central Oklahoma and Heidi Messer of Northeastern State University. UCO's Kelsey Johnson, Brooke Rayner, and Jaci Littell were also selected to play.

Cassaday played in all 24 games with one start, averaging 20.9 minutes per game. She finished her freshman campaign with a .540 field goal percentage (54-of-100) and averaged 5.4 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Dewey made 16 starts with 20 overall appearances and averaged 6.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, and 22.4 mpg with a .341 three-point field goal percentage.
