TOPEKA, Kan. – While Washburn committed more fouls than Augustana, it was two fouls by the Vikings that ended up giving the game away. The Ichabods after a rough start battled back to win 2-1.
 
The start of the game was much different than their last as Augustana was set up with a corner kick two minutes in which led to the ball hitting off Sierra Barkus and slowly rolled into the bottom right corner of the goal.  The Vikings were near Washburn's own eighteen for much of the game and outshot Washburn 15 to 11 however would not score again. 
 
With the Vikings controlling the first half, they made a big mistake halfway through the first half. As Tera Lynch was driving towards the Augustana net she was fouled just outside Augustana's eighteen. Lynch took the free-kick and laced one into the left side tying the game up at one apiece. That score would remain until the second half.
 
For the second game in a row, the Ichabods came out into the second half performing much better than the first. On offense, Khloe Shuckman got more involved immediately. Shuckman took a shot early then in the very next possession was fouled by a Vikings defender in the box. Once again, the foul for Augustana hurt them. Lynch took the penalty kick and scored the go-ahead goal. Lynch ended the game with two goals on seven shots (six SOG). Washburn's defense clamped down to allow no goals with seven of the eight Augustana shots being off target.
 
Despite fouling 13 times and receiving two yellow cards, the Ichabods capitalize on Vikings' mistakes and held on to win. Washburn begins their season 2-0 and Augustana drops 0-2. The next opponent for the Ichabods is at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday, Sept. 9. Kick-off will be at 5 p.m.
