WICHITA FALLS, Tex. -- The Ichabod men's tennis team wrapped up a busy two days down in Texas with the final day of the Midwestern State Invitational, coming up just short of securing a flight victory.
Santiago Rendon was the last singles player remaining in the East draw to begin the day. In his Flight A finals match he came up just short in set one, losing 7-6(4). Rendon lost 6-2 in the second set to Phil Exner of Ouachita Baptist University to finish in second place in the A flight.
The Ichabods had three teams in East draws for doubles play to begin the day. Miquel Perez and Yoshinobu Nakatsuji lost their Flight A match, 8-2 to Ouachita Baptist University.
In Flight B the duo of Moritz Pieper and Daniel Bird fell to Midwestern State 8-3. After a bye in round one, Daniel Harkin and Ben Dubois were able to have some success in Flight C, winning 9-8(4) over Ouachita Baptist to move to the finals.
In their finals, Harkin and Dubois came up short against Baptise Mercier and Iban Martin-Legay of Midwestern State, losing 8-3, to conclude all East draw play for Washburn.
In consolation singles play Noah Neideck lost a three-set match in the finals of the West stage of Flight B. Also in Flight B, Moritz Pieper lost in two sets in his 3-4 playoff. In Flight C, Daniel Bird won his 3-4 playoff with a third-set tiebreaker.
Yoshinobu Nakatsuji fell in the West draw finals of Flight D, losing in two sets. In Flight F, Ben DuBois came away with a win in the West stage finals, winning in two sets, 6-2 and 6-0.
The doubles team of Noah Neideck lost a West stage match in Flight A, 8-6. In the 3-4 playoff of Flight A, Perez and Nakatsuji lost their match 9-7. In Flight B Daniel Bird and Moritz Pieper won their 3-4 playoff 8-5 to finish all the Ichabods' action in Texas.
