Washburn earns 10-point conference win at Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. -- The Washburn women's basketball team captured its first MIAA victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Ichabods defeated Rogers State, 55-45. The Ichabods will return to Lee Arena next Saturday, Dec. 17 to host Missouri Western.

Washburn (4-4, 1-2 MIAA) led 4-0 to start the game and later a layup from Yiibari Nwidadah pushed the lead to 6-3 with 4:19 on the clock. On the next possession, Rogers State (2-8, 0-4 MIAA) hit a three-pointer to start a 12-2 scoring run to end the first quarter with a 15-8 advantage. Macy Doebele made a layup to level the score at 37 and after RSU went 1-for-2 at the free throw line on the ensuing possession, Aubree Dewey hit a jumper to start a 9-0 scoring burst and give the Ichabods a lead they would hold for the remainder of the contest. The closest the Hillcats would get was five points with just over two minutes left before the Ichabods scored the last five points of the afternoon, all on free throws.
