TOPEKA, KAN. -- The Ichabods finished a stretch of three games in three days with a victory in their return to home over Ottawa University White JV, 87-71.
Washburn scored the first basket of the game and never trailed the rest of the way. After a layup by Josh Jamison at the 11:22 mark in the first half the lead reached double digits, 17-7.
The Ichabods got a balanced scoring attack in the first 20 minutes, with six players scoring at least five points. On the other end they held the Braves to just 30.3% shooting in the first half, helping to build a 41-28 halftime lead.
In the first 2:18 of the second half the Ichabods went on a 9-0 run, blowing the lead up to 22. The lead wouldn't dip below 15 until the 6:26 mark of the second half in the midst of a 7-0 Ottawa run. The Braves got the lead down to nine points four times in the final five minutes but never got any close as Washburn continued to have answers offensively and come up with stops defensively.
The Ichabods ended the game on a 6-0 run to win 86-71.
Washburn had six players finish with at least 12 points scored. Kevin Eman had 17 to lead the bunch. Isaiah Braynen and Josh Jamison each had 14, while Jamison added 20 rebounds. Stavian Jones and Garrett Peterson both added 13 points off the bench while Cameron Heiman had 12 points and eight assists.
The Ichabods outrebounded Ottawa 58-37 while holding the Braves to just 38.4% shooting. Washburn also had a 10-point scoring advantage in the paint, helped by 15 offensive rebounds.
The Braves were led in scoring by Collin Knapp who had 19 points. Lachlan Mihai also had 17 for the Braves.
Washburn finishes up its season Friday, Dec. 9 against Sunrise Christian Academy at 7 p.m. in Wichita.
