Ichabods Drop First Match of Season to No. 7 Indianapolis

2/12/2022 11:33:00 PM

Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods drop their first match of the season to No. 7 Indianapolis, 6-1. Washburn falls to 0-2 in the all-time series.

The match started rocky with the Ichabods getting swept in doubles competition. Each Washburn doubles team took their first dual doubles loss. Central Region's fifth-ranked doubles team Sebastian Pjontek and Matthew Earle were the first to be defeated. No. 19 Miquel Perez/Daniel Bird not getting the win put Washburn down early.

The Ichabods battled in singles but were still unable to steal a point from the Greyhounds. Raul-Alin Dicu was taken down by No. 46 Tom Niklas Zeuch from the No. 1 spot. Both Pjontek and Tim Hammes forced their opponents into a third set after losing the first. Unfortunately, Pjontek lost 6-4 in the final set to No. 18 ranked Nikolaj Talimaa. Hammes also lost his final set 6-3, which gave Indianapolis the winning point.

Perez and Bird also lost. Earle was able to prevent the sweep with a two set win over his opponent, 6-1, 6-2.

Washburn looks to bounce back against William Jewell on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
