Box Score TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods earned their first ranked win over No. 17 Ouachita Baptist, 4-0. It is Washburn's first ranked win since defeating No. 19 Southern Arkansas in May 2021.

The Ichabods looked strong in doubles competition. In No. 2 doubles, Raul-Alin Dicu and Noah Neideck were tied at 1-1 before scoring five points in a row to win 6-1.  The other two matches were tight between the two teams. It was Matthew Earle and Sebastian Pjontek who secured the doubles point for Washburn by defeating the eighth-ranked doubles team in Division II. Both teams traded points until it was 2-2. Then Earle and Pjontek took control rattling off three straight points. Francisco Oliveira and Santiago Kearney made it a one-score game at 5-4, but the Washburn duo sealed the deal with the next serve.

The Ichabods' third doubles team, No. 19 Miquel Perez and Daniel Bird, started down 2-0. They were able to tie it up at 3-3. Perez and Bird scored three of the next four points to sweep doubles competition.

Tim Hammes started singles play on the right foot with a 6-0, 6-4 victory from the No. 2 spot. Hammes got down 2-0 early in the second set but did not waver. Washburn took the 3-0 lead after Pjontek defeated his opponent 7-6, 6-2. The first set was a back-and-forth battle deciding by a set tiebreaker. The second set was more lopsided with Pjontek scoring four straight to end it.

Dicu defeated No. 17 Oliveira, 7-6,6-4 to secure the Ichabods win. Another tight first set led to a set tiebreaker. The second set was tied 3-3 until Dicu scored two in a row. The bottom of the Washburn lineup either did not finish or did not compete.

The Ichabods head to Springfield, Mo. for two matches to begin their seven-match road stretch. First up, Washburn takes on Illinois-Springfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.
