TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod softball team won its 10th game in a row wrapping up a perfect 5-0 weekend at the Hotel Topeka with an 11-2 win over Southwest Minnesota State in a 65-minute, five inning win. Washburn returns to action hosting Rockhurst on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
The Mustangs scored two runs in their first at bat taking advantage of an Ichabod error taking the early lead. But the lead was short-lived as the Ichabods scored four runs in the bottom of the first sending nine batters to the plate.
Autyumn Schreiner was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a single by
Ashton Friend.
Jaden LaBarge's single scored Schreiner and then
Jaycee Ginter, the MIAA Pitcher of the Week, hit a single to center scoring Friend.
Kimi Patterson wrapped up the scoring with a single scoring Ginter as the Ichabods took a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, Washburn (12-6) scored a single run on a solo home run by Ginter.
In the fourth, Washburn sent 10 batters to the plate against the Mustangs (4-7) as
Skylar Darnell singled and
Marrit Mead singled. Schreiner was hit by a pitch for the second time in a game and then
Hadley Kerschen singled driving in Darnell. Friend singled down the right field line driving in one and then Ginter connected on a double driving in Friend and Kerschen.
Raegen Hamm tossed four innings striking out four improving to 4-3 on the season allowing one earned run.
Washburn had 13 hits overall with Ginter finishing with three while driving in four and scoring three times.Â
