Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The newly minted No. 7 Ichabods (9-1) wasted little time in defeating the Concordia Irvine Eagles, 5-2. Washburn controled the match from start to finish for their ninth win of the season.

The 34th ranked doubles team lived up to it. Matthew Earle and Sebastian Pjontek started the match winning 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Miquel Perez and Santiago Rendon finished close behind with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Perez and Rendon have won their first three matches together, all in the last three Washburn matches. Washburn led 1-0 heading into singles competition.

Raul-Alin Dicu and Noah Neideck were tied 4-4 before the match was stopped.

In singles play, No. 25 Tim Hammes fought in a 7-5 first set win, then dominated with a 6-1 second set. Hammes is 5-1 when playing at No. 2 singles. The Ichabods went up 3-0 after Pjontek defeated No. 68 Adam Large in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Perez finished the job in a three-set win from the third spot. He won the first set 6-3 but was forced to a third set when he lost 7-5 in set two. In the third set, Perez quickly secured the Ichabod victory with a 6-1 score.

The Eagles were able to get two points at No. 1 and No. 5 singles. No. 45 Dicu lost the first set 6-4 then battle back with a 7-6(3) second set victory. It was still close in the third set super tiebreaker however, Dicu would drop the set 1-0 (7). At No. 5 singles, Rendon also lost in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (2). Daniel Bird went three sets as well but won it 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (1).

No. 7 Washburn stays put in California for two top-20 matches against No. 16 Azusa Pacific (March 12) and No. 6 Hawaii Pacific (March 13) at Azusa. Both matches begin at 4 p.m. CT.
