Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – Washburn women's tennis lost to No. 14 Azusa Pacific, 4-1. It is the Ichabods' fourth straight loss.

The match started unconventionally, with Svea Crohn and Marta Torres earning a doubles win by retirement. The match was called before any points were scored by either team. Kinsey Fields and
Maja Jung earned another Washburn doubles point in a 6-3 victory from No. 2 doubles.

Lara Schmid and Isabella Martensson were down 5-4 but did not finish their match at No. 1 doubles. The Ichabods moved to singles play with the 1-0 lead.

Azusa Pacific responded quickly at No. 1 singles. Torres lost in straight set, 6-0, 6-2, tying the match up at one apiece. The Cougars took the lead on another strong straight-set victory in the fifth spot. Crohn lost her first set 6-1 and 6-3 in her second set. The Ichabods dropped three straight points when Fields fell in two sets at the bottom of the lineup. Fields competed hard in both sets but fell short, 6-3, 6-4.

The final three singles matches were tight contests as Washburn battled to keep their chances of winning alive. Unfortunately, Martensson lost in two sets 7-6 (4) and 7-5. The Cougars won four straight matches in singles for the victory.

Schmid and Jung were also competing hard at three and four singles. Schmid dropped the first set 6-3 but forced a third set with a 7-5 second set win. She did not finish the third set. Jung also lost her first set in a 7-6 (4) tiebreaker. She was tied 5-5 in the second before the match was completed.

The Ichabods face No. 7 Hawaii Pacific at the same time on Sunday, March 13.
