COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods returned to MIAA play with a doubleheader sweep over Lincoln on Friday. Washburn continues MIAA play wrapping up a 12-game roadtrip at Central Missouri on Saturday.
Game 1 - WU 2, LU 1
The Ichabods (22-11, 4-2 MIAA) took advantage of a Blue Tiger error in the fifth inning scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead and held off a seventh inning Lincoln rally for the win in game one.
In the fifth,
Jenna Moore walked and
Maddie Stipsits reached on an error and then both moved up 60 feet on a sac bunt by
Paige Robbins setting the table for a 2-RBI, two-out double to left by
Marrit Mead scoring both Moore and Stipsits.
In the seventh inning, the Blue Tigers (11-12, 0-6 MIAA) had a lead off single and then after a pair of fielder's choice baserunners, Ichabod starting pitcher
Jaycee Ginter recorded her 10th strikeout of the game slamming the door on the comeback opportunity for her nation-leading 15th of the season. Ginter allowed three hits and the one earned run in the game.
Washburn's hits were all doubles by Mead,
Hadley Kerschen and
Ashton Friend.
Game 2 - WU 12, LU 0
The Ichabods scored early and often jumping out to a 9-0 lead after two innings adding three more in the fourth and fifth innings rolling to a 12-0 win pounding out 15 hits wrapping up the sweep over the Blue Tigers.
In the first after Mead reached on an error and moved to second on a sac bunt by
Hailey Neira, Mead moved to third when
Jaden LaBarge reached on an error and would score on a single by Friend. Ginter came to batand singled scoring LaBarge and then Kerschen's groundout scored Friend. After a passed ball Ginter scored staking the Ichabods to a 4-0 lead.
To start the second,
Autymn Schreiner doubled down the line and then after a single by Mead, Schreiner scored on a throwing error by the Blue Tigers. Friend would single scoring Mead and then after a single by Ginter, Kerschen singled scoring Neira. Keeping the hits coming Maddie Stipists singled and scored Friend as the Ichabod went up 8-0.
Kaylee Wagner reached on fielder's choice scoring Kerschen as Washburn took a 9-0 lead.
Washburn was scoreless in the third, but added a run in the fourth when Schreiner singled scoring Stipists as the Ichabods stretched the lead to 10-0.
The Ichabods wrapped up the scoring in the top of the fifth adding two more runs when Ginter's double drove in Friend who singled and then Kerschen's single scored Ginter.
Ashlie Thissen pitched four complete innings for the win striking out five picking up her first win of the season.Â
Friend, Ginter and Kerschen each had three hits to lead the 15-hit attack by the Ichabods. Kerschen also drove in three runs.
