TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods grabbed their first conference win over No. 25 Nebraska-Kearney. It also marks Washburn's first ranked win of the season.

In doubles competition, Svea Crohn and Marta Torres won their seventh doubles match in a row, 6-0. No. 25 Nebraska-Kearney (7-6) also defeated Isabella Martensson and Lara Schmid, 6-0.

The doubles point came down to a tight No. 2 doubles match. Kinsey Fields and Maja Jung fell short, losing 7-5. The Ichabods (5-8) started down 1-0, heading into singles play. 

Jung put Washburn on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 victory from the two position. Jung is 3-0 when competing at No. 2 singles. The Lopers responded with two-set wins at No. 4 and No. 3 singles. Washburn needed to win the last three singles duals to defeat the Lopers.

Schmid kept the Ichabods in the match, winning in two sets, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. Torres won her first set, 6-4, then lost her second set, 6-2. The match was tied up when Torres took the third set, 6-3. At the bottom of the lineup, Cadence Lynn fell in her first set, 7-5. She forced the third set with a dominant 6-1 second set win. Lynn won the third set, 6-4, to clinch the Ichabods' victory. 

The Ichabod hope to stay unbeaten in the conference against Fort Hays State on Sunday, March 27, at noon.
