SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Washburn soccer came away with its second straight road victory after defeating Augustana University 2-0 to stay undefeated on the season.
It is the second straight season that the Ichabods have begun the season with three straight victories. Through three games, Washburn has outscored its opponents 10-3, with seven goals coming in the second half.
After scoring five goals in the second half against William Jewell, the Ichabods continued the scoring streak. In just the second minute of the match, Riley Wells took the ball herself down the middle of the field, shooting and scoring into the left side of the net for her first career goal to make it 1-0.
Each team recorded just four shots in the first half, with two for each side coming on goal. Washburn defenders Emily Michaelis, Carlee Thompson, Lakin Rold and Taylor Bockover each played all 90 minutes in the scoreless affair.
The Ichabods took only six shots in the game, with two by Rold leading the way. The Vikings took 11 total shots and seven in the second half. Josie Arduser and Grace Douglas each took three shots to pace Augustana. Of the 11 total shots, six were taken on goal and stopped by Raegan Wells who recorded her tenth career solo shutout, and second of the season.
Following the score two minutes into the match, 75 minutes went by without a goal until Jaedyn Johnson shot from the right side and scored into the top left corner of the net to give her three goals in the last two games.
Both goals by Washburn were unassisted. So far this young season, half of the team's goals have come in that form. The Ichabods have had a player record their first career goal in each of the three games so far after the second-minute goal from Wells.
Augustana goalkeeper Jillian Barkus recorded two saves in the game, playing all 90 minutes.
Washburn will return home Sunday, September 4 and take on former conference foe Missouri S&T for the first time since 2012 beginning at 1 p.m.
