EDMOND Okla. -- Washburn men's tennis began its fall season Friday at ITA Regionals in Edmond, Okla. where three players advanced to day two in singles play and four doubles pairs qualified for the round of 16.  

The Ichabods had 10 players competing in singles competition which began at 9:30 a.m. and continued throughout the day. Sixty-four players began the day with 16 advancing into day two.  

Sebastian Pjontek, Miquel Perez, Daniel Bird and Santiago Rendon each advanced through the first round. Pjontek lost the opening set but won the final two while all others swept their opponents.  

Moritz Pieper, Yoshinobu Nakastuji, Matthew Earle, Noah Neideck, Daniel Harkin and Tim Hammes each fell in the opening round. In the round of 32 Rendon and Perez each won again, Perez in two and Rendon in three. Bird lost his second-round match, while Pjontek again won in three sets, this time losing only in the second.  

Washburn had five teams competing in the field of 32 of doubles play and would end the day with four advancing into the final 16 teams.  

Sebastian Pjontek and Tim Hammes didn't drop a single set point, winning 8-0. Noah Neideck and Matthew Earle took an 8-2 victory, as did Yoshinobu Nakastuji and Daniel Harkin. Daniel Bird and Moritz Pieper won 8-4 while Miquel Perez and Santiago Rendon fell 5-8 in the opening round.  

All ten players will be back in action in either singles or doubles play beginning at 8 p.m. Sept. 24.
