Ichabod baseball inks pair in 2024 signing class

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn baseball head coach Harley Douglas has announced the signing of two players who will join the Ichabods out of high school for the 2025 season. The class of two shares one name and features a right handed pitcher and a utility player with experience in the infield and outfield.

A four-year member of the Cyclones baseball team at Ottawa High School … has not played senior season yet … helped Ottawa to a fourth-place finish in the state tournament as a sophomore … named to KABC second team All-State as a junior and a Sports In Kansas second team All-State member and second team All-League … set the school ERA record with a 1.47 ERA … 7-1 record with 38 strikeouts and eight walks in 42.2 innings … also played basketball two years … son of Jennifer and Cory Blaine … dad played baseball at Ottawa University and was the head coach at Ottawa for seven seasons … has a brother, Isaac … plans to major in Psychology

A four-year member of the Lincoln East baseball team … has not played senior season yet … hit .337 and helped the Spartans to a 31-4 record and Class A State Championship as a junior … also played four seasons of football and two years of basketball … member of the national honor society and was a two-time Academic All-State and Academic All-Conference selection … son of Shelly and Jason Laessig … has a sister, Ella … plans to major in business
