No. 20 Ichabods throw no-hitter and hit walk-off home run on day two of Washburn Invite

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 20 ranked Washburn Ichabods went 2-0 on the second day of the Washburn Classic with back-to-back dramatic victories starting with a 7-0 win over the University of Mary which featured a combined no-hitter from Jaycee Ginter and Sheyenne Cheek and a 4-2 win over Minnesota Crookston in eight innings with a walk-off two run home run by Jaden LaBarge.

Game 1 – WU 7, UM 0

Jaycee Ginter started in the circle for the Ichabods going four innings striking out five and only walking two batters. Marrit Mead supplied the offense early with a first inning home run into left field to score Ellington Hogle who singled to lead off the inning.

Washburn scored the rest of its runs in the third inning which started with a walk by Hadley Kerschen. She was moved to third on a double by Mead and driven in by Paige Robbins' single into the outfield. Autymn Schreiner kept the line moving, driving in Mead and Jaden LaBarge with a double down the left field line to make it 5-0.

Kaylee Wagner hit a sacrifice fly to bring Robbins home and move Schreiner to third. Hailey Neira reached on an error at second base and Schreiner was able to score and make it a 7-0 game in the bottom of the third.

After the top of the fourth the rest of the game belonged to Sheyenne Cheek and she delivered a swift ending. In Cheek's three innings of work she struck out six batters, walking one to sit down nine of 10 batters faced.

Ginter collected her 10th win in the circle, moving to 10-1 on the season. The Ichabods needed only five hits in the win, two coming from Mead.

Game 2 – WU 4, UMC 2

Sadie Walker got the start for Washburn, tossing 2.2 innings allowing three hits and two runs with four strikeouts. All of the runs for the Eagles came in the top of the first inning on just one hit.

The game was deadlocked at 2-0 until the fifth inning which started with a single by Erin Boles into center field. Jenna Moore traded places with Boles after a fielders choice and she was moved to third on a double by Hadley Kerschen. Jaycee Ginter went up the middle for a single, driving in Moore. Marrit Mead followed with a sacrifice fly into right field to bring home Kerschen and tie the game at two.

Ginter took over pitching in the middle of the third inning and threw a perfect game the rest of the way. Striking out 11 in 5.1 innings in the circle. The dominant pitching performance, which included a run of six straight called strikeouts, allowed Washburn to get into extra innings and up to bat.

The Ichabods' time in extras was brief, Jaden LaBarge led off the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run into left field, scoring Mead and giving Washburn a 4-2 win.

Ginter won her second game of the day, moving to 11-1 after throwing a combined 9.1 innings with no hits and 16 strikeouts on the day. Mead led Washburn's offensive attack, racking up three total hits in the afternoon.
