LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 22-ranked Washburn Ichabods wrapped up the Lubbock Christian University Invitational with a 4-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State winning their fourth game in a row. The Ichabods will return to action next weekend at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark.
Washburn (4-1) scored in its first at bat when
Marrit Mead doubled to lead off the game and scored on an error by the Bulldogs. Washburn added a second run in the second when
Kimi Patterson started the frame with a home run to left center.
The Ichabods scored two runs in the third when
Paige Robbins walked and then stole second and then
Jaden LaBarge connected on a two-run homer to left putting the Ichabods up 4-0.
Southwestern Oklahoma State (1-2) scored its only run of the game in the third inning cutting the Ichabod lead to 4-1.
The Bulldogs threatened in the fifth when they loaded the bases with one out, buy
Jaycee Ginter relieved Ichabod starter
Sadie Walker (1-1) retiring the side and would pitch the remaining 2 2/3 innings of the game to pick up the save.
Walker pitched 4 1/3 innings striking out three for her first win of the season.
