KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Washburn baseball outfielder
Trevor McCollum earned MIAA Hitter of the Week honors after he helped the the Ichabods to a 3-1 week at home last week.
McCollum led the Ichabod offense in four games last week, batting .563 (9-16) with two walks and scored eight times. He was also 5-5 in stolen bases and only struck out once in his 16 at bats. In the series opener against Northeastern State, McCollum was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a walk, scored two runs, and stole three bases. In the final game of the series, he finished the game 2-3 with a walk, an RBI double, and three runs scored.
For the season, McCollum has a .396 batting average with 21 hits, 14 runs scored, seven RBI, 12 walks, and 10 stolen bases.
McCollum becomes the second Ichabod this season to win MIAA Baseball Athlete of the Week honors as
Casey Steward was tabbed the conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 13.
The Ichabods will be back on the field Tuesday afternoon hosting Northwest Missouri. The game was originally scheduled to take place in Maryville, Mo., but was moved to Topeka due to wet field conditions at NWMSU. First pitch against the Bearcats at Falley Field will be 3 p.m.
