Washburn completes road swing against No. 21 Flager and No. 20 Florida Southern

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's tennis finishes its spring road trip across Florida with two more ranked matches, first against No. 21 Flagler College on Sunday before taking on No. 20 Florida Southern on Monday.

Ichabod Breakdown

  • Washburn will finish its trip to Florida with a Sunday match against No. 21 Flagler College and a Monday matinee against No. 20 Florida Southern.
  • The Ichabods are 7-3 on the year after a 7-0 loss to No. 12 Rollins College.
  • Flagler College is 8-4 entering the match while Florida Southern is 12-3 going into the weekend. 
  • Washburn is 1-0 all-time against the Saints and 0-2 against the Moccasins. 
  • The Ichabods fell out of the latest ITA rankings after being ranked No. 44 the week prior.

Head coach Kirby Ronning

Schedule spring forward

Flagler College Staff

  • Jonas Piibor is in his second season leading the Flagler program
  • Prior to joining Flagler he was the head coach at Gonzaga from 2018-21
  • He served as an associate head coach at Oregon from 2008-18
  • In his first season at Flagler, Piibor coached the team to its first NCAA Division II National Championship, advancing all the way to the national semifinals. He was named the Peach Belt Coach of the Year in 2022
  • Volunteer assistant Brian Washburn rounds out the staff

  • Washburn and Flagler College have played each other once in program history with the Ichabods leading 1-0

History with the Moccasins

  • Washburn and Florida Southern College have played twice in program history, with the Moccasins winning both matchups 
  • The first matchup was on March 18, 2008 and was a 7-2 win for Florida Southern College 
  • The two teams have not played since March 21, 2014, both were played in Flakeland, Fla.
