TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ichabods held a two-run lead heading into the ninth, but saw that lead slip away as Washburn lost to Rogers State on senior day Sunday, 12-6. Washburn will close out the regular season next weekend at Pittsburg State, April 28-30.

After the senior day ceremony, Rogers State (24-19, 12-18 MIAA) scored one run in the first inning before Washburn ended the inning would a double play. The Hillcats added to their lead in the second inning with three runs on one hit and an error to go up, 4-0.
In the bottom of the third with two outs and on an 0-2 pitch,
Cale Savage kept the inning alive and hit a solo home run to left field for Washburn's (27-19, 19-11 MIAA) first run of the afternoon.
Cal Watkins and
Trey Adams hit back-to-back singles and a wild pitch scored Watkins from third base.
Ike Book kept things going with an RBI double and he came around to score the tying run on
Easton Bruce's single to center field.
The Ichabods took their first lead of game in the fourth when Savage brought in the run with a sacrifice fly to left center.
Chase Torkelson took over on the mound in the fifth and retired the first seven batters he faced and did not allow a baserunner until the seventh with a walk and a single, but left those two stranded to keep the score at 5-4 in favor of Washburn.
Washburn added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by
Andrew Schmidtlein.
The Ichabods recorded a strikeout of Rogers State to begin the top of the ninth, but the Hillcats then rallied for eight runs on six hits, three walks, and one error to take the lead. RSU then closed out the win with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
Washburn led in hits in the game, 12-11.
Blake Scott was 3-4 at the plate with one run scored. Bruce went 2-4 with an RBI and Watkins also landed two hits and scored once.
Torkelson was tabbed with the loss and now holds a record of 7-3 on the year. He went 4 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on four hits and three walks and struck out three.
