Ichabods' late-inning heroics push Washburn to split with Tigers

TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 17 Washburn Ichabods rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-out RBI double by Erin Boles as Washburn picked up a split in a doubleheader with Fort Hays State winning game two 4-3 after falling in the opener 2-1. Washburn will be back in action on Saturday hosting Nebraska-Kearney starting at 1 p.m.

The Tigers added another run in the top of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead.

Washburn (30-7, 9-5 MIAA) cut the lead in half with a solo run in the bottom of the seventh when Jaycee Ginter singled up the middle ending the shutout scoring Marrit Mead, but left two runners on as the inning ended.

Game 2 – WU 4, FHSU 3 (8 innings)
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Boles' double over the right fielder's head scored Allison Hemsath from second base with the winning run as the Ichabods salvaged a split with the Tigers at Gahnstrom Field.

Hemsath entered as a pinch runner for Kimi Patterson who doubled with one out.

The Tigers scored one run in their first at bat and the Ichabods came back with a run in the bottom of the third when Hadley Kerschen singled to left scoring Ellington Hogle who had an infield single as the Ichabods tied the score at 1-1.
