EDMOND, Okla. --Washburn women's tennis began the 2023-24 season with qualifications on both the singles and doubles side into day two of ITA Regionals.
The Ichabods got opening round wins for Flight A singles from Isabella Martensson, Peyton Koper and Maja Jung. Jung was able to advance out of the round of 32 later in the afternoon, picking up a second consecutive two set victory.
In flight B Issabella Pensavalle won a quick two set match in the opening round of 32. After having byes in the first round Maddie Shelley and Cadence Lynn joined her in the Round of 16. Pensavalle won a three set battle to advance into the quarterfinals while both Shelley and Lynn won in two sets.
In the Flight C quarterfinals Daphney Koutsofta won her opening round match in two sets.
In doubles Washburn was a perfect three for three in the Flight A round of 32. Issabella Pensavalle and Martine Carroll won 8-2, Maja Jung and Lara Schmid were dominant in a 8-1 victory and Renske Ubachs and Isabella Martensson had a quick 8-2 match.
In Flight C Maddie Shelley and Daphney Koutsofta fell in an 8-5 match to close the day.
