TOPEKA, Kan. -- No. 15 Washburn women's tennis began its spring season with a 7-0 exhibition sweep of William Woods on Saturday afternoon at the Genesis Tennis Center. The Ichabods will play their first official match of the spring next Saturday against the University of Missouri – St. Louis at 10 a.m.
Washburn made swift work of doubles play beginning with Peyton Koper and Isabella Martensson sweeping 6-0 at No. 2. The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 with Issabella Pensavalle and Renske Ubachs taking a 6-2 win. Lara Schmid and Maja Jung completed the sweep with a 6-3 win on court one.
Koper continued her quick day of work in singles with a two-set win from No. 3 by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Ubachs followed quickly behind winning 6-0 and 6-1 from No. 2. Jung secured the exhibition victory from No. 1 winning 6-2, 6-1.
The trend continued in the back half of the lineup beginning with Martensson winning 6-2, 6-1 as well on court five. Cadence Lynn swept her first set and won the second 6-1 and Schmid completed the sweep winning 6-1 in the first and sweeping her second set.
