No. 16 Ichabods head to Oklahoma to face RiverHawks and Hillcats

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team will begin a four-game road trip this weekend with matches against the Northeastern State RiverHawks and the Rogers State Hillcats. The Ichabods, who reached the No. 16 spot in this week's USC National poll, will take on the RiverHawks at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. Washburn will then make the 57-mile trip to Claremore, Okla. to face the Hillcats at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.


--- KICKOFF ---

  • Washburn Ichabod soccer hits the road for a two-game trip in Oklahoma, facing the Northeastern State RiverHawks and the Rogers State Hillcats.
  • Washburn will take on the RiverHawks at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18 and the Hillcats at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.

  • Washburn is 7-2-2 so far in the 2024 season.

--- A LOOK AT LAST WEEK ---

  • Washburn picked up a pair of home conference victories over Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State, each by a 3-0 scoreline.
  • Missouri Southern held the Ichabods scoreless in the first half, but Washburn exploded for three goals in the second half to earn the victory.
  • Washburn defeated Pittsburg State in the first-ever matchup between the two schools.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Beck is tied for 2nd nationally with six shutouts posted in goal. Beck's 0.371 goals against average is good for 14th in Division II, while her 0.852 save percentage places her in a tie for 41st.
  • Junior Belle Kennedy is tied for 13th with three game-winning goals.
  • Washburn ranks 7th in Division II in corner kicks taken per game. The Ichabods have taken 84 corner kicks for an average of 7.64 per game.
  • Washburn ranks 11th in team goals against average with a 0.364 mark, and 28th in save percentage at 0.862.

--- BLUE REPORT ---

  • For the second week in a row, Belle Kennedy broke a scoreless tie in the second half after her goal in the 58th minute against Missouri Southern. Kennedy split through the Lion defense and received a short pass from Khloe Schuckman, giving Kennedy a quality scoring opportunity.
  • Senior forward Ana Muruzabal scored her team-high fourth goal of the season off a cross from Lindsey Maul to give Washburn a 2-0 lead over the Lions in the 71st minute. The assist was Maul's first of her career.
  • Senior Cloe Quintana finished off the 3-0 victory over Missouri Southern with a goal in the 81st minute. Katie Kamies set up the goal with a cross from the left side, giving the senior her first assist in a Washburn uniform.
  • Against Pittsburg State, Schuckman scored her third goal of 2024 in the 28th minute. Schuckman found the ball in the six-yard box following a corner, and after her initial attempt was saved by the goalkeeper, Schuckman followed her shot and put the rebound into the net to give Washburn an early lead.
  • Senior Viviana Soto-Herrera scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute, launching a shot from just inside the box to the top of the goal. Schuckman assisted on the play, giving her the team lead with three assists on the season.
  • Jadyn Allen added her second goal of the season on a header off of a corner kick from Aubrey Tanksley in the 70th minute. Both of Allen's goals this season have come from headers.

  • Khloe Schuckman is two goals away from 30 goals for her career and two games away from 75 career games played.
  • Mackinly Rohn is two points away from 20 points for her career.
  • Josie Boyle is one game away from 50 career games played.
  • Ana Muruzabal is two points away from 30 points for her career.
  • With her goal against Missouri Southern, Belle Kennedy moved to third in game-winning goals in Washburn history.

--- LOOKING AHEAD ---

  • The Ichabods will remain on the road for two more games. Washburn will travel to Central Missouri on Oct. 25 and Fort Hays State on Oct. 27.
  • The next Ichabod home game will be on Friday, Nov. 1 against Northwest Missouri State.
  • The MIAA Championship Tournament begins on Sunday, Nov. 10 with the quarterfinals taking place on campus sites of the top-4 seeds.
  • The NCAA Tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 21 and concludes with the National Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Match #12 - Northeastern State

  • The RiverHawks are coached by Chase Wooten in his 15th season.
  • NSU is 8-3-0 this season with a 2-3-0 mark in MIAA play.
  • The RiverHawks are coming off a weekend where they played a single game, a 2-0 road defeat to MIAA leader Missouri Western on Oct. 11.
  • Senior Whitney Gentry leads NSU with five goals scored, while also adding one assist for 11 total points.
  • Freshman defender Hannah Anderson leads the RiverHawks with three assists.
  • Junior Rebecca Partyka has played all but 17 minutes in goal for the RiverHawks this season. Partyka has made 41 saves this season, with a goals against average of 0.93 and a save percentage of 0.804.
  • NSU has almost double the offensive output of its opponents, taking 200 shots while only allowing 107 attempts.
  • The RiverHawks have taken 61 corner kicks this season while allowing only 33 opposing attempts.

Match #13 - Rogers State

  • The Hillcats are coached by Chris Jones in his third season.
  • Jones was the head women's soccer coach at Washburn for two seasons, from 2015-2016. He then served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M Corpus Christi before taking the helm of the Hillcats.
  • RSU is 1-8-2 this season with a 0-3-2 record in conference play.
  • The Hillcats played a single game last weekend, dropping a 2-0 contest at Northwest Missouri on Oct. 13.
  • RSU will welcome Emporia State to Soldier Field on Friday before hosting the Ichabods.
  • Redshirt freshman Taylor Colmo leads the Hillcats with two goals this season, while redshirt sophomore Amber Arnold has a team-high two assists.
  • Tiffany Brittan and Marlou Frieling have split goalkeeping duties for the Hillcats. The duo has recorded 67 total saves this season.
  • The Hillcats' opponents have only a 0.470 shots on goal percentage against the RSU defense.
  • Washburn is 4-0-0 all-time against RSU. The last meeting came on Sep. 29, 2023, when Aubrey Tanksley scored the lone goal in a 1-0 Ichabod victory at Yager Stadium.
