No. 15 Ichabods remain on road to face Jennies and Tigers

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team will conclude its four-game road trip this weekend with contests against the Central Missouri Jennies and the Fort Hays State Tigers. The Ichabods, who cracked the top 15 in the latest USC National poll, will make the trip to Warrensburg, Mo. to battle the Jennies on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Washburn will then head west to Hays, Kan. to face the Tigers for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday, Oct. 27.

--- KICKOFF ---

  • Washburn Ichabod soccer remains on the road, first heading east to take on the Central Missouri Jennies before going west to face the Fort Hays State Tigers.
  • Washburn will take on the Jennies at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 and the Tigers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

--- BOD BREAKDOWN ---

  • Washburn is 9-2-2 so far in the 2024 season.
  • The Ichabods remain in a tie for second place in the MIAA. Washburn and Central Missouri both sit at 19 points, three points behind Missouri Western.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Beck is tied for 1st nationally with 10 shutouts posted in goal. Beck's 0.313 goals against average is good for 5th in Division II, and her 0.879 save percentage ranks 15th in the country.
  • Junior Belle Kennedy is tied for 19th with three game-winning goals.
  • Washburn is tied for 8th in Division II in corner kicks taken per game. The Ichabods have taken 97 corner kicks for an average of 7.46 per game.
  • Washburn ranks 6th in team goals against average with a 0.308 mark, and 11th in save percentage at 0.886.

--- BLUE REPORT ---

  • Viviana Soto-Herrera netted a goal for the second game in a row against Northeastern State, which turned out to be the difference-maker in a 1-0 victory. The senior from Bellevue, Neb. took a season-high four shots in the contest.
  • Senior defender Josie Boyle scored the opening goal in the sixth minute in the win over Rogers State after receiving a corner kick on the far post. The goal was her first of the season and the second of her career. As a result of her performances in the last two matches, Boyle was named the MIAA Defender of the Week and a HyVee Student-Athlete of the Week.
  • In her 75th career match for the Ichabods, Khloe Schuckman extended the Washburn lead in the seventh minute against Rogers State. Following a Hillcat goal kick, Schuckman stole the ball from an RSU defender and finished the play herself with a shot over the head of the goalkeeper. The goal was Schuckman's fourth of the season, putting her in a tie with Ana Muruzabal for the team lead in goals. Schuckman also took a career-high eight shots in the match.
  • Riley Wells added to the Washburn lead with her goal in the 55th minute. After a shot from Khloe Schuckman was deflected by the Hillcat goalkeeper, Wells came in and finished off the rebound. The senior played a season-high 69 minutes in the game.
  • Sophomore Mackinly Rohn closed the scoring for the Ichabods with her 69th minute goal. Rohn was able to squeeze a well-struck shot attempt through heavy traffic in the center of the box. The goal was Rohn's second of the season and gave her 20 points for her career.
  • Rilyn Snyder made her first career start in the match against Rogers State. Snyder, a sophomore from Aurora, Colo., has now appeared in 16 games for Washburn.

  • Khloe Schuckman is one goal away from 30 goals for her career.
  • Viviana Soto-Herrera is one goal away from 10 goals for her career and 99 minutes away from 4,500 career minutes played.
  • Ana Muruzabal is two points away from 30 points for her career.
  • Hailey Beck currently sits in first place all-time in save percentage and goals against average.

--- LOOKING AHEAD ---

  • The Ichabods will return to Yager Stadium for the final two home games of the regular season. Washburn will take on Northwest Missouri State on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m., then face Missouri Western State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3.
  • Washburn will close out the regular season with a trip to Emporia State for the Turnpike Tussle on Nov. 6.
  • The MIAA Championship Tournament begins on Sunday, Nov. 10 with the quarterfinals taking place on campus sites of the top-4 seeds.
  • The NCAA Tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 21 and concludes with the National Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 14.

--- OPPONENT QUICK SCOUT ---

Match #14 - Central Missouri

  • The Jennies are coached by Lewis Theobald in his 17th season.
  • UCM is 9-3-2 this season with a 6-1-1 mark in MIAA play.
  • The Jennies posted two shutout victories last weekend, defeating Central Oklahoma 3-0 before downing Newman 7-0.
  • Senior Ashleigh Martin leads UCM with seven goals and 17 total points.
  • Caroline Cole leads the Jennies with five assists. Cole has also scored five goals for a total of 15 points.
  • Sophomore Kristen Wright has seen the majority of the action in net for UCM. Wright has made 61 saves and sports a save percentage of 0.871 and a goals against average of 0.76.
  • The Jennies have scored 38 goals this season while only conceding 12. UCM averages 16 shot attempts per contest, with just over half of those attempts being on goal.
  • The Jennies rank third in the nation with 124 corner kicks attempted.
  • Washburn is 7-25-1 all-time against UCM. The last meeting came in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, where the host Ichabods defeated the Jennies 3-2 in overtime. Khloe Schuckman scored two goals, including the 109th minute winner. Aubrey Tanksley also added a goal for Washburn.

Match #15 - Fort Hays State

  • The Tigers are coached by Tyson John in his third season.
  • FHSU is 6-4-4 this season with a 3-3-2 record in conference play.
  • The Tigers fell to Northwest Missouri State at home 2-1 on Friday before playing Missouri Western to a 0-0 draw.
  • FHSU will face Washburn in its only match of the weekend, having a bye on the typical MIAA Friday matchday.
  • Freshman forward Taylor Hill is the leading goalscorer for the Tigers with four goals on the season.
  • Senior midfielder Sullivan Kelly leads FHSU with three assists.
  • Mackenzie Caldwell has recorded 60 saves for the Tigers, with a save percentage of 0.845 and a goals against average of 0.89.
  • FHSU has taken 147 shots this season, with a shots on goal percentage of 0.463.
  • Washburn is 8-12-2 all-time against FHSU. The last meeting came on Oct. 27, 2023, a 1-0 Ichabod victory in Hays, Kan. Khloe Schuckman scored the lone goal in the 53rd minute.
