TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn men's tennis team opened its final fall tournament of the season with a strong day one sending four singles players and three doubles teams into day two in the Main Stage of each draw. Cometition will begin at 10 a.m. with singles on Sunday.  

In singles play Pavlos Parson and Vasek Schneider will meet in the finals of the east draw after each got through three-set duals in the quarterfinals and moved quickly through the semifinal round.  

In Flight 2, Tommy Cecchetti played four sets on the day and won four sets to move into the finals. Matthew Earle came up short in a first set tiebreaker before falling in the second set.  

Daniel Harkin advanced to the semifinals in Flight 3 before falling in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Marco Romano forced a super tiebreaker in the third set of his quarterfinals match but came up just short falling 11-9.  

In Flight 4 both Graham Faris and Moritz Pieper won their opening round duals. In the semifinals Pieper advanced after his opponent retired while Faris came up short in two sets.  

In Flight 5 and Flight 6 respectively Yoshinobu Nakatsuji and Ivan Ivanov each went 2-0 on the day in the round robin style competition.  

On the doubles side Pieper and Parsons won their opening round match in Flight 1 as did Tommy Cecchetti and Marco Romano.  

In Flight 2, Harkin and Ivanov fell 6-4 in their opening round duel while Nakatsuji and Faris came away with a 6-3 victory.  

Sunday's schedule will begin with singles competition before finishing the day with doubles action.
