TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn Ichabod women's tennis began the Washburn Invitational by advancing five singles players into the final round of their respective flights along with two doubles teams into the semifinal round on Saturday. The competition on Sunday will begin at 10 a.m. with singles action.  

Daniela Tijaro bounced back after losing her first set of the day to win the next four and advance to the finals of Flight 1 with two victories. Leo Floeth lost a first set tiebreaker in the first round and also fell in the second set.  

In Flight 2 both Maddie Shelley and Saajida Razick advanced into the semifinals where Razick won the final two sets of her dual to advance into Sunday. Shelley split her opening two sets before coming up just short in the super tiebreaker third set, 10-7.  

From Flight 3 both Isabella Martensson and Jasel Bailey played the minimum number of sets on their way to being matched up in the finals on Sunday after two victories each.  

Issabella Pensavalle and Daphney Koutsofta each advanced to the semifinals of Flight 4 with two set victories. Pensavalle came away with a three-set victory in the semifinals round while Koutsofta fell in two sets in her second dual of the day.  

In doubles play Tijaro and Floeth fell in the quarterfinal round of Flight 1 while Martensson and Razick advanced with a 6-4 victory. In Flight 2 it was Pensavalle and Bailey moving on after a 7-5 win while Shelley and Koutsofta lost a 6-4 dual.  

Sunday's schedule will begin with singles competition before finishing the day with doubles action.
