TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods rallied from an 12-point first half deficit to take a 55-54 lead with 9:11 to play but was outscored 21-11 the rest of the way in a 75-66 loss at Northeastern State on Saturday afternoon. Washburn will return home to host Missouri Western on Wednesday in Lee Arena.
Northeastern State (8-13, 3-12 MIAA) led by five at the break at 40-35 after shooting a blistering 68 percent from the field in the first half hitting 15 of 22 shots including a 6 of 9 performance from 3-point range.
The second half saw the Ichabods score 11-straight points midway through the half turning a 54-44 deficit into a 55-54 lead with 9:11 to go. The RiverHawks scored seven-straight of their own going up 61-55 with 6:11 to play. Washburn trimmed the lead back to two at 61-59 with 5:27 left, but back-to-back scores by the RiverHawks put the lead back to seven and Washburn (14-7, 10-5 MIAA) would not get closer than five the rest of the way.
Brady Christian led the Ichabods recording a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while
Jarmell Johnson scored 11 and
Jack Bachelor had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Caison Hartloff led five RiverHawks in double figures with 17.
Washburn finished 44 percent shooting from the field for the game hitting 26 of 59 while NSU was 28 of 52 overall for a 54 percent clip hitting 9 of 19 3-pointers in the ggame.
