KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods had their season come to an end in the MIAA Tournament semifinals in Municipal Auditorium falling 76-59 to the top-seeded Northwest Missouri Bearcats. Washburn finishes the season 19-11.
The Ichabods jumped out to a 10-3 game holding the Bearcats (26-4) without a field goal for the first 5:16 of the game. The Bearcats cut the lead to 10-7 before the Ichabods used a 7-0 run building a 17-7 lead at the 12:03 mark of the opening half.
With the Bearcats leading 26-22 with 5:19 to go in the half, a 3-pointer by
Jake Schadegg pulled Washburn within one before the Ichabods played nearly even the remainder of the frame with Northwest taking a 31-29 lead into the break.
A 16-4 start to the second half by the Bearcats pushed the lead to 14 at 47-33 with 15:29 to go, but the Bearcats kept the Ichabods at arm-length the rest of the way.
Jarmell Johnson led the Ichabods with 18 points following up on his career-high 23 points in the semifinals against Rogers State last night.
Brady Christiansen finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Mitch Miscari led the Bearcats with 19 points.
The Ichabods held the No. 1 field goal percentage team in the nation to 36 percent shooting while holding Northwest to 8 of 25 from the field from deep. Washburn shot 39 percent in the game hitting 19 of 49 going 7 of 16 from 3-point range. At the free throw line the Bearcats finished 30 of 38 going 19 of 25 in the second half alone while the Ichabods were 14 of 22 overall. Both teams had 36 rebounds overall.
