KEARNEY, Neb. – The Washburn Ichabod soccer team defeated the Black Hills State (S.D.) Yellow Jackets 6-0 on Friday in Kearney, Neb. The Ichabods will stay in Kearney for their final nonconference contest against the Western Colorado Mountaineers on Sunday, Sep. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Washburn put the pressure on the Yellow Jackets from the opening kickoff, racking up a total of 16 shots in the first half, with seven coming on goal. The Yellow Jacket defense would hold firm until the 26
th minute, when
Lakin Rold converted on a shot outside the box for her first career goal. A fresh set of Ichabod substitutes came in and contributed to the offensive attack, highlighted by
Presslee Amick's first career goal off an assist from fellow sophomore
Kylie Hinrichs. The Washburn defense would hold Black Hills State without a shot attempt in the first half.
The Ichabods continued to control possession and attack the Yellow Jacket net in the second half, with
Khloe Schuckman finding
Mackinly Rohn in the center of the box to put Washburn up 3-0. That scoreline would hold for only six minutes before
Ana Muruzabal found an opening in the Yellow Jacket defense for her first goal of the season. The Ichabods would tack on two more in the span of 66 seconds with Amick and
Hunter McWilliams adding to the scoresheet.
Rold and
Belle Kennedy led the Ichabods with four shots each, while Schuckman, Amick, and Rohn tallied three each. Three goalkeepers saw time in net, with
Alli Harrington and
Emily Levy recording one save apiece. Washburn totaled 28 shots in the contest while holding the Yellow Jackets to two. The Ichabods were awarded 11 corner kicks in the match.
Jayda Hammer and Tea Whitlock each recorded a shot on goal for Black Hills State. Makayla Dannelly made 10 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Yellow Jackets.
