TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn men's tennis completed day one of the ITA Central Region Championships and will be well represented on day two with four singles players and three doubles teams reaching the round of 16 in the A Draws. Day two action will begin at 9 a.m. with singles and 2:30 p.m. for doubles.  

The Ichabods were busy in the main stage of Draw A with eight players in the first round. Tim Hammes led off with a quick two set win, dropping only two combined games. Graham Faris fell in the opening round by scores of 6-4 and 6-3. Tommy Cecchetti won his opening set 6-2 and pulled away late in the second set to win the tiebreaking game 7-4. Matthew Earle worked two winning sets, moving into the round of 32 with 6-1 and 6-2 victories. Vasek Schneider also advanced, winning 6-1 in his first set and 6-3 in the clinching set. Moritz Pieper pulled away late to win 6-4 in his first set and advance with a 6-2 victory in the second set. Pavlos Parson became the sixth Washburn player to move on, winning 6-4 and 6-3. Daniel Harkin lost 6-4 in the first set and forced an extra game in the second before coming up just short, 7-5.  

In the round of 32 Hammes continued to roll, winning a pair of 6-3 sets to move into day two. Cecchetti blanked his opponent 6-0 in the first set and won 6-1 in the second set to advance. Earle fell 6-3 in the first set but forced a tiebreaker in the second before losing 7-6(4). Schneider swept his first set and advanced to Saturday with a 6-3 win in the second set. Pieper lost a pair of sets, 6-1 and 6-4 to end his run. Parson became the fourth Ichabod into the round of 16 after winning 7-6(4) in the first set and finishing his dual with a 6-3 win.  

In Draw B of singles both Yoshinobu Nakatsuji and Ivan Ivanov had byes in the round of 32. Marco Romano joined them in the round of 16 after winning 6-3 and 6-1 sets. He continued to roll into the quarterfinals winning a pair of 6-1 sets. Nakatsuji began his singles run splitting the first two sets of his dual, each by a 6-4 score. The third set tiebreaker required extra points to get decided before he was able to come away with a 13-11 victory and advance. Ivanov needed just two sets to continue playing on Saturday as he won both by a score of 6-4.  

On the doubles side Matthew Earle and Tim Hammes led off at the top of the Main Draw with an 8-2 win in the round of 32. Moritz Pieper and Marco Romano came up just short, falling 8-6 in the opening round. Daniel Harkin and Graham Faris worked quickly to advance into the round of 16 with an 8-1 victory. Yoshinobu Nakatsuji and Pavlos Parson were unable to come back from an early deficit, falling 8-5. Vasek Schneider and Tommy Cecchetti became the third Washburn team to move onto day two with an 8-2 win.
