#2 Ichabod Soccer Opens Season Against Tritons and Saints

TOPEKA, Kan. -- #2 Washburn Ichabod Soccer opens the season September 5, at home against the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons at 6 p.m. and September 7 against the Maryville Saints with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
 

KICKOFF

  • Washburn Ichabod soccer begins the 2024 season with home matches against the University of Missouri - St. Louis and Maryville University.
  • Washburn will take on the Tritons at 6 p.m. on Thursday Sep. 5 and the Saints at 1 p.m. on Saturday Sep. 7.

BOD BREAKDOWN

  • Washburn enters the 2024 season coming off a run to the NCAA title game in 2023, compiling a 21-4-1 record and winning the MIAA regular season championship.
  •  Missouri - St. Louis went 8-6-3 in 2023 with a 7-4-1 record in the GLVC, falling in the GLVC tournament quarterfinals. They will open the season against the Ichabods. 
  • Maryville went 14-3-4 with a 10-1-2 record in the GLVC. The Saints fell in the semifinals of the GLVC tournament, but earned a berth in the NCAA tournament, where they advanced to the second round.
  • The Ichabods were picked sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. 
  • Washburn returns 27 players from last year's national runner-up team, while adding two transfers and one freshman to the roster.

BACK AGAIN - 2024 RETURNERS

  • Khloe Schuckman enters her senior campaign after leading Washburn with 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. She sits in second place on Washburn's career goals list with 25. In 2023, she picked up her second career All-MIAA first team selection, while also being named a USC Second Team All-American.
  • Riley Wells returns as a senior forward alongside Schuckman. Wells started all 26 games for Washburn her junior season, scoring three goals and adding three assists.
  • Viviana Soto-Herrera begins her senior season after earning All-MIAA Second Team honors in 2023, scoring five goals and assisting on three others. She started 25 games for the Ichabods in her junior season, playing 1,634 minutes.
  • Senior midfielder Ana Muruzabal enters her third season at Washburn after scoring eight goals and adding three assists in 25 games off the bench in 2023. She earned an All-MIAA Honorable Mention selection and a CSC Academic All-District nod as a junior.
  • Jadyn Allen returns after logging 964 minutes in 25 games as a junior, contributing three goals and two assists. She is a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll recipient.
  • Cloe Quintana starts her fifth season in a Washburn uniform after playing all 26 games for the Ichabods in 2023, starting two. She has earned four MIAA Academic Honor Roll selections in her career at Washburn.
  • Senior Katie Kamies enters her third season at Washburn. She played 324 minutes in 2023 and earned her second MIAA Academic Honor Roll selection.
  • Senior defender Taylor Bockover led all outfield players with 1,890 minutes played in 2023. She contributed to 14 shutouts on her way to an All-MIAA Third Team selection.
  • Josie Boyle takes advantage of her fifth season in a Washburn uniform after placing third among outfield players with 1,849 minutes played in 21 games started. She scored her first career goal on 09/24/23 against Nebraska-Kearney and was an All-MIAA Honorable Mention selection in 2023.
  • Jordan Tenpas enters her second season at Washburn after an excellent junior year on defense. Her honors include USC and D2CCA First Team All-American selections, along with being named to the All-MIAA First Team and selection as MIAA Defender of the Year. She played 1,860 minutes across 21 games started, adding one assist.
  • Senior goalkeeper Alli Harrington made her first career appearance at Washburn in a win over Southwest Minnesota State on 09/08/23. She is a two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
  • All-MIAA First Team selection Belle Kennedy leads a class of eight returning juniors. Forward Aubrey Tanksley led the class with five goals scored. Lakin Rold paced her classmates with 1,786 minutes played while totaling two assists. Hunter McWilliams returns in midfield, and Sydney Achilles, Shandon Carr, Londyn Furnish, and Brooke Powell add to the defensive ranks.
  • Sophomore forward Mackinly Rohn returns after scoring four goals and leading the team with seven assists as a freshman. Midfielder Grace Peterson started all 26 games in 2023, totaling 1,537 minutes and scoring one goal. Lindsey Maul scored two goals from her defender spot as a freshman. Kylie Hinrichs returns at forward, Presslee Amick bolsters the midfield ranks after appearing in 15 games in 2023, and defenders Rilyn Snyder and Kate Wilder are back for a second season at Washburn. Hailey Beck defends the net after making one save in one appearance in 2023.

NEW FACES

  • Washburn adds two transfers for 2024. Junior goalkeeper Emily Levy joins the Ichabods after three seasons at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where she played in 14 games over two seasons, compiling 59 total saves. Junior defender Shaye Taylor comes to Washburn from Minot State, where she made 28 starts over two seasons, playing 2,509 total minutes.
  • One freshman joins the Ichabods in 2024. Sam Searcey (Lincoln, Neb./Southeast) will play in midfield.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Washburn lost to Point Loma 1-0 in the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship Game. Khloe Schuckman led the Ichabods with three shots, two of them being on goal. Raegan Wells made five saves in goal.

  • Washburn is 1-1 against UMSL. The last meeting was a 3-1 defeat for the Ichabods on Sep. 3, 2023 in St. Louis, Mo.

Match #2 - Maryville University

  • MU is led by Lori Lawson in her seventh season.
  • The Saints went 14-3-4 last season and 10-1-2 in the GLVC.
  • MU lost to Grand Valley State 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
  • The Saints return 20 players from 2023 and add eight freshmen.
  • Lexi Gentry leads all returners with 21 points in 2023, with six goals and nine assists.
  • Ashlyne Hunt returns after leading the Saints with eight goals scored in 2023.
  • Gigi Yurevich played all 21 games in 2023, compiling 55 saves.
  • The Saints outscored opponents 47-13 in 2023, taking 15.0 shots and allowing only 7.0.
  • Assistant coaches Eric Delabar, Ian McReynolds, Casey Gutting, and Jaclyn Mastroianni round out the coaching staff.
  • This will be the first meeting between Washburn and Maryville.
