KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Ichabod men's tennis squad finished its first tournament of the fall season capturing a total of three draw titles on day two of the Rockhurst Invite. Washburn will be back on the courts next in Topeka at the Washburn Invite on Sept. 14.
In doubles a Washburn-heavy Blue Draw saw no changes as Daniel Harkin and Graham Faris began the day with a 7-6(3) tiebreaking win in the semifinals. The other side of the bracket was a battle of Ichabod teams. In the end Yoshinobu Nakatsuji and Pavlos Parson advanced past Moritz Pieper and Marco Romano with a 7-6(3) tiebreaker as well. The finals dual also needed an extra game before Faris and Harkin came away with the 7-5 victory.
Tim Hammes and Matthew Earle continued to roll in the Yellow Draw, winning their semifinals match 6-3. They needed one less game in the finals dual, claiming the title with a 6-2 victory.
In extra matches and consolation action Washburn doubles pairs went 1-2 on the day to wrap up doubles.
On the singles side it was another all-Washburn final in the Blue Draw. Tim Hammes came back after losing 7-5 in the first set to Vasek Schneider, winning 6-4 and 10-6 in the final two sets to take the title.
The rest of the Ichabods were busy in consolation duals and extra matches as they went 7-2 in those to finish out the tournament.
