Ichabods Earn Weekend Sweep, Beat Fort Hays 2-1

TOPEKA, KAN. - The Washburn Soccer Team completes an undefeated weekend with a 2-1 win over Fort Hays State.

"Credit the girls, they find a way," said Head Coach Davy Phillips. "We are going to need that down the stretch here, we're going to need big moments late in games."

Washburn(10-2-3, MIAA 7-0-2) moves to the top of the MIAA standings with today's win over Fort Hays State(3-10-1, MIAA 1-7-1). 

FIRST HALF
Washburn dominated the opening 45 minutes with 7 shots in the half. Washburn had a goal ruled out in the 15th minute for offsides. In the 34th minute, Freshman Bricelyn Betts scored her first career goal to put the Ichabods on top, assisted by Sam Searcey for her second of the year.

SECOND HALF
Fort Hays State would tie the match up in the first couple of minutes of the half. Both teams would continue to look for the winner, but in the 77th minute, Junior Kylie Hinrichs would also score her first career goal from a cross from Sam Searcey

NOTES
  • Washburn extends its unbeaten streak to 11 games.
  • The Ichabods outshot the Tigers 15-4 and had more corners, 7-4.
  • Washburn goes top of the MIAA table with 23 points.
  • Back-to-back matches with game winners inside 15 minutes left to play.
  • Bricelyn Betts & Kylie Hinrichs both scored their first career goals.

UP NEXT
Washburn will head to Marysville, Mo., for a Halloween matchup against Northwest Missouri. Kickoff is slated for 3 PM.
