TOPEKA, Kan. -- No. 11 Washburn lost its first match of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 to No. 5 Midwestern State in a six-hour long match. The Ichabods remain at home taking on Texas A&M – Kingsville next Friday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.  
Doubles competition began with Isabella Martensson and Saajida Razick working a quick 6-2 win from No. 3 to give Washburn (2-1) the advantage. Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs closed out the point by pulling away late for a 7-5 win on the top court. Leo Floeth and Peyton Koper fell in a tiebreaker from No. 2, 7-6(2).  
Midwestern State evened the match at one as Ubachs lost a pair of 6-1 sets from No. 2. They pulled ahead as Floeth fell 6-4 in the first set and lost a 7-6(3) tiebreaker in the second at No. 1. Tijaro also lost a tiebreaker, 7-6(6), in the first set but battled back for 6-3 and 7-5 victories in each of the next two sets to even the match back up.  
Playing at No. 4, Razick also lost a long first set, finishing with a 9-7 tiebreaker. The next set went in the Mustangs' favor 6-3. Koper extended the match as she quickly won 6-1 and 6-2 sets from No. 5. Martensson won her opening set at No. 6, 6-2. In the second she fell 7-6(4) in the tiebreaker game and Midwestern State won the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set.
