TOPEKA, Kan. -- Ichabod senior infielder Cash Jay was named the National College Baseball Writers Association Central Region Hitter of the Week on Wednesday morning for his performance at the plate last week.  

Jay earns his second honor of the week after being named the MIAA Hitter of the Week on Monday. The Chickasha, Okla. native helped lead Washburn to a 4-0 week of action at home beginning with a 21-10 win over Winona State and finishing out with three straight wins over No. 12 Missouri Southern. The senior infielder hit three home runs on the week and drove in 12 RBI. He slashed .611 for the week with a 2.000 OPS. 

In the 11-8 game two victory over the Lions he hit a 10th inning walk-off three-run home run to secure a series victory for the Ichabods. In game one of the series he clubbed two home runs and in the series finale he drove in the winning runs in the eighth inning with a single.   

The regional award is the first for any Ichabod since Casey Steward was named the Central Region Pitcher of the Week on April 26, 2023.  

Washburn is 10-6 on the year and 5-1 inside the MIAA, they are back in action for three games against Northwest Missouri beginning Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.
