Ichabods drop final midweek meeting with No. 3 Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Washburn completed the season series against No. 3 Central Missouri on Wednesday afternoon falling 9-2 in the final midweek game of the regular season. The Ichabods wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against Newman beginning on Friday.  

Neither team got on the board in a scoreless first inning which was delivered on Washburn's (23-24, 15-18 MIAA) end by Griffin Huiatt on the mound. In the second inning Easton Bruce led off with a single, with one out Connor Scott followed suit and would steal second. Owen Laessig put the Ichabods on the board with a single to left, scoring a pair.  

In the home half of the inning a walk and hit batter put two on. Back-to-back hits scored both runs to tie the game. With two outs the Mules (33-9, 24-6 MIAA) got a single, walk and triple, scoring four run to go in front 6-2.  

Kai Bennett took over on the mound in the third inning for Washburn, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one baserunner. On the offensive side, the Ichabods were unable to manage a hit between the fourth and seventh innings as the deficit remained at four with two more scoreless frames from Fidel Hatch.  

In the home half of the seventh Central Missouri got three hits in the first four batters to score two runs and go up 8-2. The next inning, a leadoff walk came around to score on a single. Washburn picked up hits in each of the last two innings but did not bring the baserunners around, falling 9-2.  

The Mules out-hit the Ichabods 9-2 while also picking up five walks to three for Washburn. Six pitchers took the mound, combining for three strikeouts, three pitchers tossed 2.0 innings.  

At the plate Jett Buck was the only player to slash multiple hits as he had a three-hit day. Owen Laessig picked up both RBI in the game for the Ichabods.  

Central Missouri was led by Dayvin Johnson with three hits and one RBI. Sawyer Allen got the win pitching 4.0 innings.
