TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn was held scoreless for the first time all season as they fell 2-0 to Rogers State on Sunday afternoon in game two of the series. The Ichabods will look to bounce back in the series finale at 1 p.m. on Monday.
Neither team got on the board through the first two innings with Caden Bressler facing just seven batters through the first two. In the third inning the Hillcats (21-11, 11-9 MIAA) strung together three straight hits to score a pair of runs and go in front.
Bressler settled back in, allowing just one hit and two baserunners over the next three innings as he finished his outing throwing six innings with four strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. At the plate Washburn (17-19, 10-13 MIAA) was quiet, after a first inning double by Hayden Priest the Ichabods managed just one hit until the seventh inning.
Kai Bennett took over on the mound midway through the top of the seventh with the bases loaded. He got a ground ball double play to get out of the inning and keep the score at 2-0. In the home half, Jett Buck hit a two-out double, moving to third on a passed ball, but was unable to move up the final 90 feet to put Washburn on the board.
The eighth and ninth innings were two more scoreless frames for Bennett. In each inning at the plate the Ichabods picked up hits but remained scoreless as they were shut out for the first time in 2025.
Rogers State out-hit Washburn 7-5 in the game, with the Hillcats walking five times to just one free pass for the Ichabods. Each team committed one error in the game.
Three pitchers took the mound for Washburn, with Caden Bressler throwing 106 pitches to get through six innings with four strikeouts and only one earned run. Kai Bennett finished with 2.2 innings scoreless and three strikeouts.
At the plate for the Ichabods no player had more than one hit in the contest. Colton Anderson threw eight scoreless innings for Rogers State with six strikeouts to earn the win.
