Washburn Roll For Its First Win Of The Season Over Drury

SPRINGFIELD, MO. - The Washburn Soccer Team gets its first victory of the 2025 season.

"I'm so proud of how our team prepared and executed this game. It was so fun and rewarding to see the team implement a week of really high-quality training into practice against a tough opponent like Drury," said Washburn Head Coach Davy Phillips

On Friday evening, Washburn got their first win of the season over Drury 3-1. The Ichabods were led by Freshman Leah Henke, who scored two more goals to make her tally three this season. On both of Henke's goals, senior Belle Kennedy recorded the assist. Sam Searcey headed home the corner from Mackinly Rohn to make it a 3-1 game with less than 15 minutes to play.

FIRST HALF
The Ichabods were applying pressure early on and broke through with a goal in the 15th minute by freshman Leah Henke, her second goal of the season, and was assisted by Belle Kennedy. Both teams had four shots in the half, but Washburn put two of their four on goal, with one finding the back of the net.

SECOND HALF
Once again, Washburn puts pressure on Drury to open the half, and in the 53rd minute, Leah Henke sneaks it past the keeper to find the back of the net with an assist from Belle Kennedy once again. The freshman has scored all of Washburn's goals this season so far this season. Drury got one back quickly in the 58th minute by Keira Love, who found the bottom corner. In the 76th minute and with Washburn's fourth corner of the match, Mackinly Rohn finds the head of Sam Searcey to restore the two-goal lead 3-1 with less than 15 minutes to play.

Washburn moves to 1-1-1 on the season.
